Hello!

My 1995 GMC Sonoma was built with a 2 part drive shaft, the rear of which used 2 double cardan u-joints. S10_OEM_CV_Back.webp

At first it was a clicking noise, then a loud banging noise, then a banging and a vibration, then a violent shaking and lots of noise. The very rear cardan u-joint was locked up and buckled in a funny angle and the Constant velocity bearing in the center was totally blown apart. Driving the truck at this point could easily cause extensive damage to the rest of the truck.

I purchased a new drive shaft from ProShaft llc. It took about a month for it to arrive. http://www.proshaftllc.com driveshaft007.webp

The new drive shaft features 2 regular U-joints which replace the ridiculously over complicated double cardan u-joints. Chevrolet-S10-Conversion-Rear-Drive-Shaft-(1995-2003)-2.webp 1006or_09_+universal_joint_strengths_and_specs+driveshaft_double_cardan_joint.webp
The New drive shaft cost around $500 in total and was extremely easy to install. driveshaft005.webp

Once you have removed the bolts on the differential side of the drive shaft, unscrew the cap in the center and slide the drive shaft off of the spline gear. The new shaft installs the same. Note: The spline gear has a single gear that is larger than the rest and will only slide on if it lines up with the grove that is also larger than the rest.
Always check the length of your drive shaft before you purchase a new one. There are several GMC drive shaft lengths some of which are only different by one inch.

Good Luck!
