After trying a number of online DIY security fixes i finally found one that worked.
1.Lock all doors using key fab.
2.unlock drivers door using key (chip key or aftermarket cut doesnt seem to have bearing on this step.) then open door.
3.now with the drivers door open. relock the whole vehicle using the key fab.
4.now close drivers door. the "security" light on the dash should be solid on at this point.
5. wait around 30 secounds for security light to turn off.
6. unlock your vehicle using the key fab, get in and sit down.
7. start vehicle using the CHIP KEY (now this is the important part if you dont have or have lost your chip key... go and buy a new one![after this system reset you should be able to start with any key, chip or not.]) and...
BAM you are done and your onboard security system has been reset till the next time your battery dies/is removed or the onboard comp is reset (assuming on the onboard comp)
key fab= keyless entry remote.
