Hi, I am new here and have a question. I have an 82 Sierra with a 305. I recently gave it to my son. The carb was shot so he put a holly 4bbl on it. Because of the difference from the stock carb we found that the EGR valve was in the way of the brake booster line connection to the carb. I found an adapter but was wondering if it would be okay just to block the egr valve off completely. This motor is stripped down, no other "emmision" components and has no cats, straight exhaust through two standards glass packs. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Geoff

Well you should keep the EGR valve working. Most don't know what it does and job is importain.
What it does is keeps the cylinder cool or from over heating by recircling the exhaust gas becaues it only burns once. so it will reduce the burnable air in the cylinder to keep temps down.

Why you want cylinder temp down/? Frist off emissions- high cylinder temp caues noxs emissoin that is bad
2nd high temps will cause engine pinging / spark knock. This will burn a piston if not addressed.

So i would keep it other will tell you not to or back off the timing. But really in the long run it does not bother perforance and adds life to your engine.
