I started hearing a clicking or rattling noise from the bottom of my truck. Truck still ran strong. The noise stopped and then about one minute later the check enging light came on. Fault code 0449. Changed solenoid vent valve and light went away. Could this noise been from the solenoid going bad? Thanks

On my 2011 5.3 i couldn't get fuel into it without it air locking constantly , when i took it to a GM dealer they told me my solenoid needed to be replace , than i took it to my mechanic he told me that the "solenoid" is just a hose with a foam filter and a one way valve , its ran from your fuel tank to above your transmission

well sorry to say but if your mechanic really belives that then it's time for a new mechanic! sorry to say this but it's true!!!

I havent heard of this "clicking" issue before, but if there is a problem with the coil grounding then ever time a signal is sent to the solenoid the circuit would ground and allow the valve to open back up, and then the procedure would repeat again. Although not on the GMCs I have seen this problem with solenoids on other 12VDC systems...and the valve can get very hot before finally failing so if you can stop the vehicle and climb under to find the vent solenoid your problem will be clear.

@ boy_blue - I also have the fuel fill problem with the airlock constantly shutting off the gas pump. I dont think its a coincidence that I also have a p0449 code right now. I'll likely have to replace my vent solenoid before getting my inspection sticker.
