Hello. I was driving yesterday and I heard a small pop come from the front passenger side of my 1998 jimmy and I heard a very quiet flat tire sound so I thought I had a flat. I got out and checked, but all my tires were fine. I continued driving and the jimmy turned and drove flawlessly, but still with the quiet "flat tire" sound. Today when I was backing up out of a space (turning the steering wheel all the way to the right) I heard an even larger "pop" from the front passenger side of the car. I began to drive and the car made the flat tire sound, but began to shake at speeds of 30 mph. My steering wheel shook as well. I got home and the car still turned and executed everything nicely, yet there was still a wobble and sound. I didn't exceed speeds of 30 mph. I believe that the car is safe to drive as I checked my lug nuts and tie rod and those looked decent, but I will further inspect it tomorrow. The next place I plan on driving it is the shop if I can't fix it myself. Any ideas as to what may be going on with my jimmy? Thanks for the help! And by the way, I have been able to turn my steering wheel a lot farther than I have expected to come from it. Do you think that I was able to turn the tires so much that something went wrong?

Okay, so after further inspection, I have noticed that I am missing two lug nuts in my rim. It was dark last night and I must have over looked them, thinking that that was not the problem. Could this be what's doing it? I still don't have an explanation for the "popping" noise that I heard though.

The lug nuts on my front passenger side tire were all dangerously loose. I only have three, but we tightened them up and drove 55 down our road and the car drove like normal, no shake or flat tire sound at all. As for the popping noise? I guess that's what a 15 year old car gives you. haha but for anyone that has encountered the treacherous "flat tire" sound and wobble, always check your lug nuts first. They may be loose.
