Hello Everyone,
I've got a 2000 Jimmy 4WD with 120,000 miles on it. Great truck, runs great.
However, It's developed a loud growl that sounds like it's coming from the front passenger wheel. Sounds like a knobby bicycle tire rubbing against the bike's fender. Noise goes away completely when the truck is placed in 4WD.
When placed back in 2WD at road speed, the noise may not start immediately, but when it does (after a few seconds) it starts at a lower frequency and 'winds up'. The wind-up only takes a half-second or so. Placing it back in 4WD stops it.
I'm guessing that it may be a transfer case issue. Possibly the spline on a shaft not fully dis-engaging? Again, just a guess.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
