Fuel Gauge

I have a 1999 Jimmy and ive noticed while driving the fuel gauge will get stuck when i go around a corner. And then the next thing i know it appears to be back to normal. What im wondering is if i need a whole new sending unit? or if i can just run some cleaner through the tank? Cause it works for the majority of the time. thanks

Sounds like the sending unit is worn out or dirty, You might get a few more years by running fuel injector cleaner in your fuel for a while. But your going to have to replace the unit sooner or later.

The other area that would cause this i a bad wire harness that may have break in the wire or its grounding out.

Hey,
A sending unit is really not a big deal to put in. Just buy the part and have a buddy help you drop the tank. Do this when you are very low on gas it will make it much easier. The tank is only held up by 2 tank straps, there are 2 or 4 bolts holding the straps to the frame.Then just disconnect all your hoses,lines, and wiring. If you do decide to do this yourself, make sure that before you start you disconnect both terminals on the battery. If you only disconnect the negative cable, you could accidentally ground the wiring causing an arc flash (no good around an open fuel tank).

If you have long enough arms, no. You can get to the top of the tank and wiggle the wire harness and connectors. On the 4 doors, you can get to it by having it on jack stand just to get enough room to work under it and you can reach it from the back and same with the 2 door.

keep us posted, and at worst. Drop the tank and careful not to break any fuel lines that may be corroded.

ok thanks.... now next question is a lift. i only want about 2 inches on it (so it still gets decent mpg) and so i can put 31's on it. Im wondering about either a rough country lift or just a torsion lift. im not planning on just cranking the t-bars all the way up, cause thats way to hard on the truck but ive heard people being split on the idea. Ive also heard if its done right its still great. I dont to too much off roading if that matters
