I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. Lastnight on my way home from work I thought I ran out of gas. I knew I was getting low on gas and the low fuel was on. Pretty soon I just wasn't running and couldn't get it started again. The gas gage read empty also. My wife brought me 6 gallons of gas and I put that in and it still didn't start but also still showed empty on the gage. She went and got another 6 gallons,nothing happened 
. I had to call a tow truck to bring us home. Went and got a new fuel pump because I was told that often times if the fuel pump is bad the gage might not work either. Got it put on and low and behold, NOTHING!!!!!! I checked the fueses in the box under the hood. it appears to be fine. Any help would be appreciated. I can't afford many more days off of work.
