Fuel Sending Unit Change...The Best Way?

I have a 1997 Sonoma that needs a fuel sending unit/pump change. I've heard there are two ways to do this, 1)drop the fuel tank, or 2)take the bed off to get to it. Has anybody done this and what is the best way to go about it? Any opinion would really help. Thanks.

personally I would drop the tank, but only if its near empty. I dont have the manpower or anything to lift a box here, but If you do....take the box off. goodluck
