Gas gauge problems with a 2006 GMC Envoy. Can someone help?

Today when I started my car the gas gauge told me that the tank was empty. So I went to fill it up but it stopped at 15 gallons. When I went to start the car again and drive away the gas light was still on and the gauge still chowed that the tank was empty. When I stop the car and it is idling the needle goes to the full line, but as soon as I start driving the needle begins to drop and ends up back at the empty line within minutes. I called On Star and they ran a diagnostic test and gave me 2 codes. P0463 is the one for the gas gauge and P2119 which is for a throttle position thing. What I want to know is what exactly is wrong with my car and what do I need to get replaced and how much is it going to cost? Has anyone had the same problem?

P0463 is a problem with the Fuel Level Sensor. You might have one corroded. A bottle or two of Chevron Techron Plus that supposedly addresses problems with the fuel sensor might help. Some gas can cause the problem you described. Techron MIGHT fix it. Worth a try anyway, Replacing the sender is expensive! :mad:

P2119 code means the throttle did not return to rest position when the computer showed it should have, Its possible that could result form a severely dirty or gummed up throttle assembly. Basically P2119 codes indicate that the throttle position varies from the requested or commanded position by more than the allowable tolerance. Cleaning would certainly be the least expensive solution, if it works. Other causes of those three codes together can be: Corroded, Worn, or damaged wiring/connectors to either the pedal or the throttle assembly itself, a faulty throttle body actuator or sensor or a faulty pedal sensor. If cleaning doesn't prevent the codes from returning, you're going to have to diagnose the both the pedal and throttle sensors and actuator. Somewhere there's the specifications, you connect a high-impedance VOM to the pedal and check the voltage at various openings. (You can also use a Tech-2, which makes things a bit easier). :D
