I have a 2011 Sierra Denali. I get between 12.5 and 13 mpg around town. When I get on the highway and and run 65 to 74 mph the fuel mileage will drop. I have a 6x8 box trailer made by haulmark. I pulled it to Alabama and mpg dropped to 8 mpg. The transmission is in and out off overdrive when I have the cruise set. I am towing only about 1500 lbs. The truck has a 6.2L engine, 6 speed trans and a 3.42 rear end. I have taken it to the dealership and the computer says nothing is wrong. Has any body else had a problem with their trucks with a similar set up.

I have a 2012 Sierra Denali and so far in 4,000 miles my mileage is 17.5 mpg. I drive mostly rural, no stop lites, X-ways and very conservative. You do know you must use premium fuel? That could account for poor mileage if running lower octane. If your drive in the city you can expect your mileage to tank. I was getting 18.1 but spent 3days in Duluth and my average went to 17.5. Lots of merging and stop lights which kill mileage.

I have not pulled anything with my truck.

Mileage can be very subjective. Rarely will 2 people with identical vehicles get the same mileage. So many things affect mileage its hard to say your truck is not normal to your operating environment and driving style. Taking with other owners with 6.2L engines your mileage is very typical. I would say, back off of 75, your mileage decreases dramatically at that speed especially when towing anything, extra weight and drag. Thats why you get 8 mpg.
