It just depends on how often, far, and what kind of terrain you will be covering. You will get better fuel economy, and have the power to pull up hills with a diesel. If its no more then 100-200 miles with a lot o flat ground you could probably get away with the 5.3 but your fuel economy is going to suffer. But with the new diesel emission standards that are out now you will be getting low fuel mileage even without a trailer. Plus the new diesels have urea tanks for the exhaust which you will have to fill up occasionally. I have owned 3 diesels and I love them, but I wouldn't own anything newer than a 2010 model just because that's around when the emissions standards started robbing them of their potential.
