Have a 1998 GMC Jimmy with 158k miles. Runs great. Recently had to change out the 'blend door' actuator for AC/heater.

Just other day, driving home from work, the gauges started fluctuating from minimum to maximum ranges, dash lights started flashing on & off & then the Jmmy stalled completely.

It would not restart immediately, but less than 5 min later it started and ran perfectly.

No re-occurance of the 'spell' yet.

Any thots as to why this happened ?

Where should I start to look or test for the problem?

Would hate this to happen to my wife as she drives the Jimmy, as a 'dead stick' car is difficult to manage.

grateful for your help!!

For what its worth ( probably not much ) -

Read a very similar post in the suburban threads but so far no reply to it
so you might want to keep checking it also.

Question -
Were the headlights on ?
I'm wondering if its possible for the switch to have gone bad ( contacts )
and caused the problems then after your jimmy died it cooled down and
started working again .

Note - One evening when I went to turn off the lights the switch
was warm to the touch , changed it out and its been fine ever since.

Many thanks to helping me think thru this issue......

Yes, the headlights were on at the time. Auto headlight sensors operates them.

I will try to reproduce the issue with the headlights on !

thx again....
