Gm nav dvd drive replacement

I have a 2011 gmc 2500Hd That has factory nav system but the dvd drive has gone out of it, had a neww dvd drive installed but the nav unit does not seem to recognize, does the truck have to be taken to a gm dealership to have to be programmed, the nav unit does work because installed new disc in but will not close door and start working. Doe anyone have any ideas ????
