I am changing the transmission filter on my 2001 GMC jimmy.
First of all... WHY THE HELL ISNT THERE A DRAIN PLUG ON THE TRANS FLUID PAN? What a mess I made in the car port. My drip pan wasnt wide enough. Oh well,,,,
OK....
So what size filter do I need.
DO I have a shallow pan or a deep pan?
2001 GMC Jimmy SLT 4wd 4.3L V6 Vortex Air Intake....
Anything else you need?
I only ask cuz Im having trouble putting the pan back on?
Do I need the small pan filter? Or do I just need to try harder to get the pan back on?
Thank you very much you guys, yahoo answers is the greatest.
But seeriously? would it hurt to put a drain plug on there for crying out loud?

I have know ideal what pan you have on your transmission, but it does matter which filter you use ,if you have the deep pan you will need the filter for the deep pan , the deep pan is going to be about 3 inches deep and the shallow pan is about 1.5 inches deep, the deep pan filter has a longer neck on it,so if you have the deep pan filter on there and it takes a shallow pan filter you won't be able to get the pan up high enoungh to bolt it up. i hope this helps .Oh by the way it would be nice if they had a drain plug on all the transmisssion pans, i have seen them on some pans.
