GMC sierra broke down :(?

I was driving when my differential started to smoke.. soon after it broke down.. i looked inside and all the gears were completely destroyed. i got it towed home and when i turned it on, it worked, but when i changed the gears to drive or reverse or something it started to rattle inside the differential.. i would put it in park and then it would make a loud screeching noise. While i changed the gears the drive shaft would keep spinning and spinning. Its a 1987 and i was wonder if i needed to replace the rear axle and the drive shaft. Also how do you take all this stuff off??!?!? HELP I MISS CRUISING IN MY TRUCK

What you need is a new differential . There is no way the truck will work the same. Install the carrier bearing too. As some trucks of that year have this bearing on the long bed trucks.
