Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter and clean your throttle body. The TBI of your sierra is fuel pressure sensitive and runs best at 13 PSI, a dirty fuel filter and throttle body will cause your to have the issues you have described.

Post back once you have replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body and let us know how things are. If no change, we can go on to other issues that might be causing your idle issue. ;)

vent hoses

check your hoses for leaks. If you have access to one of those doctor stethascopes you may use that to listen for a hiss. Old hoses, bad seals on the TBI and clogged air filters can be a cause.
