Hey everyone I just got a sweet deal for trading my vw jetta for a 1989 GMC 1500 in running order from a friend. No idea of the mileage, I haven't seen the truck in quite some time. It has the Z71 package, I am mechanically inclined and looking forward to help from these forums. I am only 18 so give me some time to get used to all this. I haven't drove a v8 since i owned a 1974 firebird. about 2 years back. OH!, it has the 5.7L 350.

I just want to get some advice on anything I should look for.

Also, how much Quarts or Liters of ATF do I need for the tranny? or do I use something else. I haven't got around to buying a manual. I heard these trucks are really reliable and don't die long as you maintain em. I'm pretty sure she has low mileage. I need her for work.

Radio don't work, but I will fix that soon.
I will get some pictures up soon.

Rust is eating away the rear driver quarter, but i will bondo that soon.
Other then that, almost rust free. Solid cab.

This may have been a lot to read, but I thank you for your patience.

Cheers

I've owned two 1989 Chevy pickups, one with the 305 engine, and one with the 350 ( 5.7 L) engine and the overdrive transmission. I drove one out to 220,000 miles, and the other to 190,000 miles. Both were good, reliable trucks, so I think you'll be pleased with your similar GMC. They are certainly worth putting some effort and money into keeping them on the road. Good luck !

The TBI was fuel pressure sensitive so try to replace the fuel filter once a year or 20,000 miles. You can get drive longer with a dirty fuel filter but your performance will me be 100% and don't forget to replace the PAM sensor also.

Good luck and keep us posted on your project.;)

Thanks everyone,

And i'll keep this in mind.
I think I need to change all the fluids and filters. The oil pressure is just reading everywhere. Maybe bad sender unit. Or something else, but it idles pretty smooth, bogs down when you punch her off the line but i dont mind, after that, she pulls hard. I have a bit of a heavy foot, but I will adjust.

So far, I know she has 330,000 km on it..... Its alot, but still seems so run strong. P.O didnt do anything.

The truck has a new axle. Other then that. All the same.
