Ok, so ill cut to the chase.. i've gotta 1984 GMC Sierra 1500..
And the steering column is broken or loose im thinking,
But it will go into each gear, grab in each gear, but column shifter itself is loose and just falls into the next gear under the one you're currently in..
How do we fix this?

Most of the time the problem is in the shift linkage at the bottom of the steering column. They wear and jam easily. The repair for this problem was to replace the inner shift tube and the lower shift arms. I'm not sure if parts are still available for that or if you will need to find them through an aftermarket supplier.
Temporarily, you will need to carry a large screwdriver to unjam the lever whenever they lock up. I hope this helped you. http://www.stolenandrecovered.com/index.php :D

Try this site. http://www.car-part.com/ You may be able to find what you need.

It's the website all the salvage yards use when they say "Hang on--let me see if my other yard has it". Actually it's an online database of all the salvage yards in America. You can search by part, location or price. By entering your information, the components that will fit your truck will be listed as available and you can see what will fit and what won't. Also, you can get an idea of what is available near you.
