hard starting just turned into no starting

For amonth now my 97 jimmy 4dr with a 4.3 vortec would take a few key cranks to start up. U would hear the pump prime a few times then it would start. Today i heard the pump turn on for a second and it didnt start. I shot start fluid in tb to try to get it going. Only runs on fluid for a sec and theres a clicking sound almost like the injectors are empty when i runs for a sec. Any help would be great.

Also i changed fuel filter and tried to restart and did not hear the pump come on to reprime if that helps

starting fluid is a high octane dry fuel - the clicking you heard was prob valve knock {not a good thing - use with caution } sounds like your fuel pump gave up - by turning the key on and off several times you was building pressures up enough to start. I just replaced the sending unit and pump in my toy this week - check valve was bad in my pump, I could hear the pump spinning backwards as the key was shut off and the sending unit had the normal 1/4 of a tank showing and out of fuel-
