Problems? so, a little while ago, we bought this truck from a guy that had no idea what the f**k he was doing with the truck, he had lubricating oil in it, i gave it an oil change and it is still losing oil .... theres no oil stains on the ground anywhere, so im thinking its burning it offf, but it might be something else too, idk if it helps any, but the pipe is lost half way down the truck, so if anyone could give me help on how to make this problem go away, id appreciate it, oh and onemore thing, i doubt it has anything to do with it, but its fuel injected, and it loses the oil within the first 2-3 days of putting in more oil ... so if ANYONE can help me find a solution so it keeps the oil, id really appreciate it, thanks, OH and in the title amounting to gas problems, i changed the plugs, and with full oil it gets 21-23 MPG highway, about 19 MPG in town, and when it loses oil, obv. it gets crappier MPG, sooo, HELP PLEASEEE !!! thank you

if your losing oil it could be piston oil rings or valve guides possible head gasket check them out

how much oil does it lose? you should be able to see smoke from tail pipe , check the sparkplugs for which cylinders, probably needs overhaul

Common issue with the valve guilds to go bad on the 5.7 liter for your year of Sierra. The oil will leak in to the cylinder through the valve guild over night or when the engine is not running. You won't loose to much oil at once, the only oil lost will be the amount of oil that pools on top of the heads so your just going to have to keep an eye on it to make sure you don't run your engine low on oil.

You might get away with adding Restor and Lucas oil treatment to slow or stop the leak, don't use stop leak. The valve guilds are brass so the stop leak will do nothing, the Restor may fill most of the worn area in the valve guilds and with the help of the Lucas should help you oil consumption issues.:D

The proper way to address this issue is to replace the valve guilds, and since your doing that. You might as well also replace the Cam and lifters to bring the engine back to life more then it is now:rolleyes:
