Heated steering wheel and cruise control not working

2008 gmc denali, no indicator lights come on when I push the heated steering wheel button. When I press cruise control, the light comes on the steering wheel but still won't let me set cruise. The other buttons all work for the radio and voice command. Are these symptoms connected and/or common? Any help to fix either of these would be much appreciated.
