It steams from the vents when the heat is on, and drips in to the foot well on the passenger side. I can't afford to have it replaced just yet, and can't get my mechanic to bypass it for about another week. Is it safe to drive it as long as I keep an eye on the coolant levels and radiator temp? I only use it to go to and from work, which is only about 12 miles from home. Thanks.

If the heater core fails 100% you will have an issue with all your coolant flowing in to your passnger compartment and a good chance of over heating your engine. This will cause you more money for repair in the long run.

If you have anyone that can help you, i can give you the instructions on how to by pass the heater core for now.

1. On thew fire wall, you`ll see the two heat core hose just behind the distributor towards the passenger side.

2. Disconnect the two hoses and reconnect them together with a copper pipe and the hose clamp.

This will bypass the heater core till you have it replaced and that is a full day`s work. The dash will need to be removed to replace the heater core on your greneration Jimmy.

Good luck and keep me posted.
