Vehicle runs good at high idle but when it drops to normal it starts missing and stumbling. What can I do to correct this?

Could be time for a tune up, or your Exhaust Cam Actuator Solenoid had a dirty screen. The Variable valve timing is controlled by the Exhaust Cam Solenoid Valve that meters oil into the cam actuator.

The ECSV is located on the passenger side on the engine by the dip stick tube next to the power steering pomp. It's a cylinder with led wires at the end, if there is any present of oil leaks from the solenoid. Then its bad and will need to be replaced.

You can remove and install a new Solenoid just under an hour, shop around for the part. they range from $65.00 to $135.00 depending on where you buy them.

Good luck and remember, the 4.2 vortec is oil viscosity sensitive to engine performance.
