so I just replaced the intake manifold gasket on my 2000 jimmy and everything works great, starts runs, drives, but the temp gauge is not moving at all, and I know it got hot enough for the thermostat to open, but still no movement on the gauge, and I did see a wire that was clipped on to the drive side valve cover that I dont know where it goes, Im guessing that is the problem but I have no clue where it connects to. Its right by the 2 connector plugs that go to the MAF. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sender for gauge (instrument panel) is on left side of engine between cylinders 3 & 5

Info as previously posted by Molson02536
1998+ have a single ECT located between plugs 3 and 5. The sensor is for the gauge and the PCM. 1997 and before had 2 sensors, one near the plugs for the gauge, and one near the thermostat for the computer.

The dash gauge sensor is on the drivers side of the block down near the spark plug area between spark plug 3 & 5. It has a single wire going to it and the wire has a connector that unhooks up near the top of the intake manifold. The dash gauge is just for the drivers view and the sensor near the thermostat is for the computer, they should not interact. You may have a ground or some other wiring problem going on the sensor to the side of the engine and not the one on the intake manifold by the thermostat.

ahhhh hah thanks! found it on the block, right where you said it was, it just was kid of hard to see (I think because I accidently brake the retaining clip on it, oops)
