Hi everyone, I bought a 1998 GMC Sierra ext cab, z71 3 weeks ago. I love it. I had an identical 97 GMC, but it was totalled in a flood 2 years ago. I've been looking for another one ever since.

Anyway, mine has the 5.7 V8, auto trans, 3.73 rear end, full power, and push button 4 wheel drive. It's pewter in color with a dark blue interior. It's got 143,xxx miles and runs like a top. I just need to get new tires soon. It sure is good to have another GMC again! I'm hoping to learn a lot here.

De screening the Throttle Body, a Cold Air Intake, and exhaust are the best and easiest mods for a 5.7L. I did all of the above and I gained 6 mpg and a healthy amount of power in a Yukon.

De screening is by removing the two torque screws that is holding the Throttle body blade, once the screw is removed, open the throttle body and slid the throttle body blade up. Your going to want to buy throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body before you start this job. Once you have the throttle body blade out, just simple remove the restrictor plate on the back side of the throttle body. I cut mine off and then grind it to a smooth finish, but i know some people who just remove the whole plate and plug up the hole with solder or pop rivets. Once done, just re-install and don't for get the lock tight on the two torque screws and the blade only goes in one way so there is no mistakes.

As for the MAF sensor, you can remove it from the air intake tube and place it on a bench with the screen side down. With a flat head screw driver and hammer, carefully place the screw driver through the MAF make sure not to touch the filament, tap the screw drive with the hammer to push the screen through and work your way till the screen falls out and this should put a mile on your face for free with better gas mileage as long as you keep from being a red light worrier.
