05 Sierra 1500 Z71 5.3L with 76k
last oil change in March 2014 with less than 1,000 miles driven since. Vehicle sat for about 4 months (June - Sept). Back on the road now and I've noticed when I step on the gas the oil pressure climbs to about 60psi, but falls back to around 40psi at idle. This happens both and startup and at operating temperature. The oil level is fine and it is clear.
I understand this could result from several problems:
oil filter bypass valve - cheap fix, do an oil change and replace the filter
pressure sending unit - more involved
oil pressure regulator - if this is working wouldn't that take care of the problem with the oil filter?
I plan to monitor and start at the top of the list first. Any other suggestions? I could just ignore it, but that seems careless.
