Just started hearing a high pitched whine in my car's front driver's side wheel. It stops when the car isn't moving/is idle/stopped at stoplight. I was thinking it was a wheel bearing, but my car knowledge isn't too expansive...so I figured it would be wise to reach out for some advice on this matter. I got a 2002 4-wh drive gmc envoy.

Start with the simple and inspect your brakes for worn brake pads or warped dust shield. If the wheel bearing, most of the time your ABS light would come on cause your wheel bearing assembly is used by your ABS sensors. If there is any play in the wheel bearing, the sensors would not read right giving you a ABS light on the dash.

The other area you will want to inspect is the CV joint boots, if they have separated and the boot ribs are rubbing. That's where your noise is coming from, make sharp right and left turns to see if the noise goes away. Note you can do this in a empty parking lots and you don't have to drive fast.

Start with the few things mentioned. Be safe and post back to us, good luck.;)

Thanks for the advice! Turns out my car just kicked up a rock, no need for any repairs. :D
