Just a cold intake and exhaust, no worries about the headers, but you do need to get the PCM re-tuned for more HP. http://www.pcmforless.com/ is one of the better ones out there to get your PCM tuned, and it's for life. So you can have them change it anytime is you replace anything like the CAM in the future, but you'll notice a big difference when they drop the Torque management percentage.

Give them a call and they will be more then glad to answer any questions you may have. I have 96 Jimmy that i re-tuned with my HP tuner, any one want's to tune a 96-97 with a HP tuner. Your going to have to get creative and use a 98 and up PCM , the system used in the 96-97 does not support a HP tuner

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

I drive a 02 Sierra with the same engine. I did a few things that really woke it up and kept a few bucks in my pocket by saving gas. I put on a K&N cold air intake and Poweraid throttle body spacer first and that saved me about 2 MPG and made the truck a lot quicker off the line. Next I put on straight pipe exhaust so people could hear me coming before i pass them. I also got a pretty good deal on a Hypertech programmer that allowed me to flash my PCM and lets me keep an eye on all of my operating temps. And my most recent project was putting on JBA headers and plug wires (stock wires do not fit with new headers). All in all, I don't regret a single thing. Good luck with your truck!
