I got a 1992 GMC Jimmy and i want to get it painted "Murdered out" black, How much would this cost in or near Jacksonville IL?

Depends on where you take it. You can have it done profestionally, or take it to a place like MAACO. I'm actually doing the same thing and they have differing levels of quality but they can cost like 250-400 all the way up to 3000+ depending on the quality you want done. Or you can paint it at your house for 100 bucks. ALOT of people complain about MAACO, but then again alot of people say they do great work; it depends on where you live b/c they have differing painters and owners. and all paint jobs should be ATLEAST 2/3's prep work to 1/3 painting. So before you take it there, i would prep it to the fullest extent by sanding, priming, taking off bumpers, covering every inch you don't want painted because they just do sweeping motions and they will charge for the "taping" they have to do which in some cases isn't that good. but hell, your paying 400 bucks for a paint job and if it's not satisfactory they are suppose to redo it till you like it. Since its a 92 (nothing against older vehicles, i prefer older ones, especially jimmy's blazers. i own a 91 s-10) but i would do MAACO since it's almost 20 years old

Take off ALL the trim you can bumpers, mirrors body trim rear window hatch glass wiper cowling etc. You can do some of the sanding yourself if you wish. they basically buzz it quick, wipe it down and sprayit and kick it out the door. IMO MAACO or Earl Sheib or any of those quick jobs are ok if you just want a quick paint job.

personally if you like your car that much go save the money and get a better body shop to do the work. Sometimes body shops have guys who do "after hours" paint jobs for cash. Costs more than the MAACO. Also sometimes some body shops have a lower rate depending if its a insurance pay or a out of pocket pay.
If you plan on keeping the car and you like it I personally suggest you save the extra money and get a better paint job to start with. You will be happier with the results.

You can always DIY. There are single stage paints out now that you can do at home and are water based. I would go get a car door out of the junkyard set it up in the garage and learn to paint. At that point you're into it for the compressor air/water separator paint and supplies. And youll probably pay more attention to detail than Maaco ever will
