I have the opportunity to use a hypertech programmer lll on my 2006 Sierra with a 5.3. Is this programmer worth the effort? Does anybody have experience using this programmer? Does changing the parameters cause problems down the road? Just want to try and improve fuel economy, etc. Any feedback would be great, Thanks

I had one in my 04 silverado the only thing it r wall did for me was find codes and the shifting pattern but. I had heard that if you use it to rough or hard your can fry the brain just not sure bout that it seems ok ,I wouldn't really it just the shifting pattern for me and the kind of gas you use also plays a factor...after you program it .gotta make sure you have it set to either 87 or 93 octane but use 87 on 87 same with 93 ....by you using the gas in either direction for me it was just bad firing and sounded like a bell going off in it ....

Hey thanks for your response. In your opinion is the programmer even worth it? I can get the programmer for short money, less than $100. If I took your reply correctly it seems the programmer didn't really work like it should. Would you use it again? Thanks for your reply

I bought a 2005 Short box with 3.73 gears. I get an average 19 mpg. Shifts harder and the throttle seems more responsive. My 05 came with a programmer. The original owner put the program in when he first bought the truck. I think it's worth the money. If you ever change tire size you can easily reprogram the speedo to the correct speed. There is quite a bit that goes on behind the scene when you reprogram. My comparison is to a 2004 5.3 I used to own.

I have a hypertech programmer and after talking to the techs there they say the 5.3 gain is 28h.p. so I think it is worth it! I have a 6.2 motor and the gain was only 17h.p. The gain depends on how tuned the motor is from the factory. Make sure the programmer has not programmed a vehicle already (they only do 1 !!) and it was put back to stock so you can do yours.
