Hello from Augusta, WV.
I recently became the owner of a 1996 GMC Suburban 2500 with a 350 C.i. Vortec engine.
Main issue is gas mileage. we're talking 8-9 mpg.
Front end stays engaged even when transfer case is in 2WD. Replaced front end actuator. Still engaged. What now?
Came with aftermarket rims and 285/75R 16 inch tires on them. Considering going back to stock 245/75R 16. tires for mileage and to reduce strain on tranny.
Engine spins up some before things start to happen. Is this a high stall torque convertor in action? Tranny doesn't seem to slip once it is going. Just wondering.
Previous owner had torsion bars cranked up for tire clearance and Vehicle has a nose high attitude. Can this be fixed? How?
Engine has a constant miss like one cylinder not getting adequate spark. New wires and plugs haven't fixed this. New cap and rotary button on the way. I suspect something a little more sinister as the 3rd spark plug back on the passenger side has an odd look to it. Gonna do a compression check and see what comes of it. Thinking (hoping) it might be a vacuum leak.
Last thing, is the mileage. It shows 442,000 and change. Add said 170,000 and PO said it had a different speedometer. Can a dealership hook their computer up and verify mileage? Wear seems consistent with 170,000 miles. Body and interior are in good shape except for hole in drivers seat cushion from getting in and out. Is 442,000 unheard of in these?
Thanks.
