would i need to do? The engine is old has about 400,000 miles or a little more, has a high rise manifold, edelbrock open air intake, and crane cam. Me and a couple of my friends have tuned the idle and fixed a couple of air leaks but other than that not a whole lot to the truck. I have no idea what the transmission is if you have any idea where to look to find out please let me know. Some people have told me to get either a bigger cam or just go ahead and buy some headers. If that is the only answer too what im asking then what cam or headers should i buy?

If you are just looking for noise, try dual exhaust with glass pacs. Add a K&N air filter and you can get a good deep throaty sound. This is the only thing I've done to my 89 with 307K miles and it sounds and runs great. Gets better mileage and living at an altitude of 7000 ft in the Colorado Rockies, you want all the "air" you can push through it. Hope this helps.
