remove timing chain cover? I have an oil leak at the front of the engine. It's more noticeable while driving than when sitting in the driveway. What I mean is, I can leave the vehicle idling for 10 minutes and not see a drop of oil leaking...but drive it a couple miles and that's when you can see that there's a leak somewhere. It's difficult to fully pinpoint the exact location of the leak with the pulleys and water pump in the way. All I know is that after a short drive, I can look under the vehicle and see an oil trail running off the cross-member directly below the harmonic dampener. I'm guessing either the front seal or timing chain cover gasket is bad. Ok now onto a couple questions . First: is it necessary to lower the front portion of the oil pan in order to remove the timing chain cover? Second: if it's not the timing cover gasket that's leaking, can the crank seal be replaced without removing the timing cover? By the way, I have a good friend that told me that the 305's timing chain has a nasty habit of chewing holes in the covers if they ever get slack in them...what are your thoughts on this one?
