goes out when i give it some gas? i would lik some one to tell me what i have to do solve this problem.

Get a Chilton's manual. It will show you how to jump out the computer to give you the code. The book will explain what the code means and what needs to be replaced.

Quite possibly an oil sending unit problem. As the engine is at idle and thr rpm's are down it recordes a lower pressure. As you increas the rpm,s the pressure naturally builds and hence the light will go off. As long as there is no difference in engine temperature and no misfire almost certain it is the oil sending unit. This was a common problem for some older Gm products.

The check engine light is for emission related components. Many auto part stores will plug in your vehicle to a scanner at no charge. Since the light has come on there will be error codes stored in the ecm. Good Luck

possibly an emissions problem, I had a chevy do the same thing... it was a small part that had to be replaced.
