I have a gmc jimmy that is have an overheating problem!?

ok i bought this jimmy off of this guy and he told me that nothing was wrong but when i was driving it home it started to over heat soo bad that i had to get it towed home. it dont overheat when the thermostat is out but it does bad when its in. its not the water pump. i need help figuring this out.. !!!!

chances are if it not overheating with the therm'out and it does not when it's in then the therm.needs to be replaced with the same degree that come out of it,make sure it's full of coolant after you change it

Replace the thermostat with a 195" fail safe Thermostat, http://www.motoradusa.com/. They cost a bit more, but will keep you from overheating to the point where your going to have engine issues that will cause you to be towed to a repair shop. Note: your 4.3 vortec was programed to run in the range of 180-200", anything colder or hotter will cause your ECM to compensate for timing do decrease it's performance.

This would be a good time for you to also flush out the cooling system and replace the coolant with a 50/50 mix of Dex-cool/water. Cooling System, With Automatic transmission Initial Fill..........11.5 liters and recheck over flow once road tested and engine at operating temperature. ;)
