It's a good Programmer for the 1997, I had on for my 1996 jimmy and did the job and now running a HP Tuner. The only problem with the HP tuner is the 96-97 trucks arent supported. You need to swap your BLACKBOX Vortec 96-97 PCM for a 411 PCM and use a base calibration file for a 2001-2002 GMC.

This swap will allow you to use HPTuners to tune tech 96-97 trucks.

The other best thing you can do is to have your ECM tuned by http://www.pcmforless.com/. There programs are one of the best i know out there on the market and they can re-tune your ECM for life.
