What was GMC thinking in 2003-2006???
They really dumbed down their trucks - I thought they were supposed to be "Professional Grade" and known for long lasting...
Ours has been annoyingly poor. - On my list of complaints...
1 - Steering rattle/intermediate shaft - easy to fix - mine is done, but nothing says poor design and crummy craftsmanship like a hard rattle in your steering wheel. - For as easy, and cheap as it was to fix why didn't GM just make it a free complimentary upgrade for everyone???
2 - Service 4WD - Love this one - Faulty design on the Auto 4WD sensor? - There went another $300 to keep my 4wd working.
3 - Service Airbag - I thought Airbag equipment was supposed to be foolproof - Apparently front right deployment sensors aren't.
4 - Service Airbag again - Apparently my passenger didn't know how or when to get into the seat when I was starting up the truck, becuase this one came on when the seat sensed something goofy and threw a light.
5 - MPG - Come on GMC/Chevy - couldn't you squeak out 20 MPG hwy when going 55 mph and driving very easily in 2WD?
6 - Today's pain - Went to install new cabin air filter - found out there isn't one on the 2003-2006 (who knows on 2007) - Why get rid of this "feature" - really - on a truck that is supposed to work out in the dust/fields. - PATHETIC. - I guess "Power Folding Side mirrors" are in much greater demand than Cabin Air filters - Oh yeah - the power folding side mirrors are broken too - Don't move to flat so they don't hit while folding in. - Hell - I'll turn that crap off anyways.
7 - Electronic throttle - come on - if I hit the gas, I want full power NOW. - I don't want the computer second guessing what I am doing, I want the computer PREDICTING what I am doing.
8 - Slowest shift into reverse ever imaginable. - Drive past the driveway - put it in R - wait 10 seconds - then it will back into the driveway. - They didn't used to be so slow.
9 - Rust over the wheelwells - thank god this one hasn't hit mine yet, and thanks to my dealer for telling me to remove the taillight, pop out the drain plugs over the wheels, take a pressure washer, and spray the heck out of the seam above the wheels to keep the rust from coming out from behind the paint.
10 - Door weatherstrip seals leak when driving 70 in a wind. - Come on - design something so it doesn't have a pulsing wind noise in the cabin.
11 - WORST ONE OF ALL - Light went out in my dash - You can't replace just the bulb - you need to replace the whole dash unit - WHAT THE HELL??? - So they tell me at 5 years old, and 85000 miles I need to replace the dash to the tune of $500 just to fix a burnt out bulb. - WHAT THE HELL. - Radio lights are going just as fast - who needs to know where the VOL/PWR button is on a radio anyways... - Steering wheel lights - you aren't exempt either - Vol, Seek, Prog, Onstar - who needs to see you at night either.
There are some positives on this... - Roomy cab, not as crazy tall as a Dodge, not the worst (not the best) on fuel, It's made in the USA... (Oh wait - it's made in Canada), Nice looks... - We'll see if it makes it to 200K miles now... - Only 114,000 to go.
