I was going to change out the front brake pads on my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 wheel drive. After taking the tire off I noticed I need a star tool I did not have. I want to go buy one but do not know what size to get. Any answers would be appreciated.

Remove the (2) caliper assembly bolts and the (2) t-55 caliper pin/bolts and pull the caliper into 2 pieces to remove the pads. The pads are notched and slide into the caliper bracket. Its a little bit different from the early-later 90's gm trucks.

Here's how it's done:

Safety first - level ground, parking brakes on and don't rely on the jack to keep the car from falling while your head is in the wheel well.

Pull the wheel and using a C-Clamp on the back of the outside pad and the other on the back side of the caliper, slowly compress the piston back into the caliper.

I like to open the brake bleed valve and catch the fluid as the piston compresses. (Your other option is let it push out of the master cylinder which makes a mess.) Close the brake bleed valve and remove the caliper.

There should be two bolts at each end of the caliper. Remove the caliper and avoid straining the brake line. The old pads are typically held in place by clips attached to the pads and they slide into place.

Remove the old pads, install the new, and slide the caliper back in place. Put the bolts through the caliper and tighten. Repeat for the other side and then check you fluid level. Add as needed. Good Luck!:D
