Hello all!

I'm new to this forum, but have been a GMC owner for many years. Here is my current issue:

I have a 1999 Yukon 1500. I'm considering buying a boat that would bring my trailer weight to about 7000 lbs. Then I have to put the family in the Yukon. According to my manual, which is pretty generic, my max towing weight is 6500 lbs. I looked up the VIN and discovered the following equip codes for my rig.

VR4 TRAILER HITCH(WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING PLATFORM) EQLZR HITCH(VR4)

YD3 AXLE FRONT (BASE EQUIP) FOR SCHEDULING GVW PLATE FRT AXLE(YD3)
Z82 TRAILERING PACKAGE(SPECIAL)(REESE TYPE HITCH) PROVISION FOR HD TRAILER EQUIP(Z82)
YD6 SPRING,REAR(BASE EQUIPMENT) RR SPRING(YD6)
C5U GVW RATING(6800 LBS) 6800 LB GVWR(C5U)
FG5 SHOCK ABSORBERS,FRT & RR,GAS PRELOADED,DELCO/BILSTEIN,46MM S/ABS(FG5)
GT4 AXLE,REAR,3.73 RATIO 3.73R(GT4)
KNP COOLING SYSTEM,TRANSMISSION,HEAVY DUTY HVY DUTY TRANS CLG SYS(KNP)
L31 ENGINE,GAS,8 CYL,5.7L,CPI 5.7R(L31)
M30 TRANSMISSION,AUTOMATIC 4 SPEED,4L60E,ELECTRONIC 4-SPD A/TRANS(M30)
NP8 TRANSFER CASE ACTIVE, TWO SPEED, PUSH BUTTON CONTROL TRANSFER CASE(NP8)

To those of you who know these codes and descriptions well - would it be appropriate for me to exceed the 6500 lb tow rating in the manual?

If not, what can I do to beef up this 1/2 ton rig so that I can get the 7000 lb boat package that I want?

It only has 61K miles on it...and no, I don't want to sell it.

Thanks
Bryan

The towing capacity weight that GM put on your Yukon, is the ability it can stop the extra weight it is towing. Make sure that your trailer has trailer brakes and is controlled with your Yukon's braking system to bring everything within the stopping distance needed.

Hope this helps;)
