I just disconnected the negative battery cable, hooked up a mono-amp to the positive terminal, and then reconnected the negative battery cable on my 2003 GMC Savanna 1500. I have had the amp set-up before and it worked just fine. I had it set up in a different configuration running on an alternate battery with a dual battery isolator and decided to switch it back to running on the starting battery.

When I reconnected the negative battery cable it sparked a little, the door chime went of, and the light in the engine compartment turned on, all of which seems normal. Then when I went into the car and turned the ignition to the setting just before starting to make sure that the sub was working I noticed the stereo wasn't turning on. Then I noticed that the instrument panel lights turned on, the gauges went dead, and the check gauges light came on. Then the dash lights went off, the gauges went back to normal and the security light turned on and stayed on. This series of events happens continuously for as long as the ignition is given power.

When the ignition is off I have noticed that every 5min or so the door chime will go off. Also there is a weird clicking noise coming from somewhere in the front of the car.

The car still starts but the weird dash light sequence continues and the stereo doesn't ever turn on.

I tried disconnecting the amp and leaving the battery disconnected for 10 min. Then reconnecting the battery. This didn't fix anything. I looked at both the interior and exterior fuse boxes and checked the fuse for the instrument panel and stereo, both of which seem fine.

I'm wondering if it could be a computer malfunction, or some kind of short? I just don't know what I did to cause the problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
