I'm looking at an 02 gmc sierra 2500 with a big block 8.1 gas motor. just wondering if this is a solid motor or not

Motor is solid, and is used in more the RV application 26Ft Uhauls, but the fuel consumption is bad. The engine is the same as the 7.4 block but has a longer stroke It is an all-iron engine (block and heads) with two valves per cylinder. Power output ranges from 225 hp to 340 horsepower and torque from 350 lb·ft to 455 lb·ft.

You may be better off locating a Sierra with a 6.0 liter Vortec Engine code LQ4. The Vortec 6000, or LQ4, is a V8 truck engine. t is an iron/aluminum (2000 model year engines had cast iron heads) design and produces 300 horsepower to 325 horsepower and 360 lb·ft to 370 lb·ft.

Good luck and hope this helps you sleep at night LOL.

Just watch for stalling issues from the crank position sensor and I am now experiencing leaks in the oil and tranny cooling hoses.
