Hi I own a 2000 jimmy. Came home from work, 2 hrs later the truck would turn over but not start. Left it sit a couple hrs and it started. Went to work that night and the truck would not start again in the morning. So i called AAA and the driver hit the gas tank with a rubber mallet, Then the truck started. Got home a few hrs later again no start, so i hit the tank with a mallet and the pump kicked in and the truck started and has been since. Now should i change the pump or could it be just the fuel filter? Any help with this? Thank.s Terry:)

The other common issue would be the wire harness or the ground wire to the fuel sending unit. Most of the time when the pump goes bad you will not be able to get it started again.

Check your fuel pressure a the shredder valve and see what it is. You should have 65 and drop about 5 psi when the engine is running. If the pressure is good then the pump has few more years and the wire harness may be bad or a bad ground.

Good luck and keep us posted.
