I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4. The problem started with just a rattle and now it's gotten worse. I've replaced the spark plugs and wires, timing chain, tensioner pulley assembly, and idler assembly. I can't put much more into it. Once you get the rpms up to about 2000 its not so bad, but it won't idle at all, and if you put it in reverse it dies instantly. Please help!!

Start with the simple and clean your Throttle body with throttle body cleaner and make sure you get the IAC passage way and IAC valve cleaned.
Once that is done give your engine a Seafoam treatment, this should help you with your idle issues. If it does not then its going to be a faulty IAC or pcm issue.

From what i read no way it's a iac motor (would'nt take 2k to make it run) and no seafoam in the world will fix his problem. But since you seem to know so much from so little info please i need the winning power ball numbers for this weeks drawing.

How did you time the engine?
Is the firing order correct?
Really just need more info to help you!

I'm sorry, I'm not exactly a mechanic. When it first happened I was driving and I noticed a rather distinct rattle in the engine. I immediately stopped driving it, and we took it to have it put on a sensor at our local parts shop. It came back with a p0300, and we didn't know what to do. So I had a mechanic friend look at it and he said it was jumping time. There has also been a burnt gas smell to the engine.
So we replaced all those parts, and it did get better for about 5 minutes, then it started the same thing again. I'm at my wits end and it's my only car. I hope that clears things up a little, and thank you for trying to help.

You could have a fuel injector issue. Do a fuel pressure test and have the CPFI inspected and tested for any issues like a leaky poppet valve or fuel pressure regulator. Also make sure the EGR valve is not stuck and not closing all the way from carbon build up.
