I am looking into tackling the job of replacing the knock sensor(s) in my truck. I have the 4.3 engine. Are the sensors under the intake manifold, or on the rear of the engine? Thanks for your time and I look forward to any and all advice you guys may have.

It should be on the driver side of the engine on the back of the block at the top. You might have to remove the fuel lines to acess it but it's not a hard job at all..

Okay. I think I may of read elsewhere that it involved removing the distributor and a TON of other stuff. Have you ever done the job before?

The service manual does say to remove the distributor. I have done it by just taking the cap off and out of the way. You can sneak it out after you remove the bolt( I think it's 10mm but not sure. ) Your going to have to remove the fuel lines off the fuel rail and the bracket off the back of the block but it should come back out. Depend on the vin code it should be no more than a couple hours to to....

Well that is not too bad. Did you have to replace anything besides the sensor? Such as the wiring, any gaskets, or anything else? And do you know of anywhere someone has posted pictures of themselves doing it? I really need to invest in a service manual...

Nope just the sensor itself is all I ever had to replace. I would cycle the ignition switch a couple times to make sure the fuel lines aren't leaking but thats about it.

Well I did some poking around today and have some more questions. I am not exactly sure where the sensor is or what it looks like. I know it will be round and have two wires coming out of it. I did find something that looked promising directly behind the intake manifold, but I am not exactly sure. Sorry if I am coming off stupid, I actually have never taken my truck to a shop and do all maintenance myself. But I have never dealt with a knock sensor and need all the advice I can get.

If your standing in the front of the truck, It will be on the right side(driver side) all the way on the back of the block behind the cylinder head. it's round with the bolt going through the middle. I uploaded a pic for you.
