Hey guys,

Recently I've noiced that when drive 60 kph+ I hear light grinding sounds coming from the rear end of my 1997 1500.

The sound doesn't seem to be affected by bumps in the road nor does it make any difference whether I am turning or not. However it does go away when the brakes are applied. As soon and I release the brakes (assuming I am still travelling over 60 kph) I hear the grinding again.

Any ideas or advice as to how I can narrow down the problem?

Thanks.

Remove your rear wheels and inspect the condition of your brakes. Replace any parts that is questionable, you may also have one of your retainer springs gone loose causing you to hear the noise you do and will disappear when the break shoes are apart.

Here is a link to your brake drum system on your sierra.

any possibility of it being the wheel bearings?
