Hello everyone.
Anyone with a GMC Jimmy 98 that can tell me where a loud banging noise comes from when having 4x4 engaged and giving some gas.
The banging noise only occurs when on 4x4 drive (high or low, same noise).
There is no noise when cruising along in like 20mph, seems to be only when torque is required.
I have replaced both left and right front axels. I thought the noise where coming from the CV joints.
All wheels are of the same size.
And im aware im not supposed to use 4x4 on dry roads, but it makes a lot of noise even on super slippery icy snowy conditions.
The noise was there when i bought the car and the previous seller said its when turning with 4x4 engaged, all wheels cannot rotate the same speed so it makes this sound. Im not sure if thats true or not, so perhaps im chasing a ghost, but i imagine this cant be a good sound, so im trying to fix it.
I made two videos with the banging noise, starts at 1:38 in this one:
https://youtu.be/mUBGCQtstKE&t=1m38s
And quite difficult to hear in this one, there are two bangs in the beginning of the video
https://youtu.be/x3X2FYlVZ18
Next step i guess is to tear apart the front diff or the transfer case, but thats a bit to advanced for me.
