Hey guys,
So the situation is my truck check engine light wont go off and i was told by my brother (who most times acts like he knows everything even when hes in way over his head) that it was because i need a special gas cap with a spring. the second problem is my trucks has a high pitch squeal that randomly happens while driving and have already spent about $1,100 on brakes and other parts the mechanics say i needed to stop it... but it still happens and when i took it back they had my truck for 3 days and said they cant find out what it is and want to take apart the assembly on all the wheels and it's be another 5-600. does anybody know what it might be? and is my mechanic giving me the run around for my $?

Bro may be correct about the gas cap. The cap has to seal well enough to hold a pressure in the fuel tank.

Can't help with the squeal. You'll have to wait for one of the big guns to jump in on this. But maybe in the meantime, you can supply more info; yr, make, model, engine.....

a squeal could be lots of things you need to be more spefic like front squeal while your moving or or stoping.

It would be also nice to know what the vehicle is? truck, suv, old, new?

For all we know that high pitched squeal could be coming from your passengers. LOL

sorry guys rookie mistake not adding that in. It's a 05 sierra crew cab SLE 5.3L V8, Z71 Off Road 4X4

where does the squeal sound like its coming from. I have an 06 sierra ext cab 5.3l hybrid and there was a squealing sound coming from the front left wheel. It was worse when I turned right. Turned out to be the left wheel bearing. I ended up having to replace the pitman arm as well. Might have been due to driving with a bad wheel bearing for too long.

Sounds exactly like the problem im having, i jerk it slightly left to shut it the heck up and then continue to try to turn right hoping it wont start up again. it sounds like the left driver side when i hear it but unbfortunately its not constant so i cant get an exact on it.

julian292 – has your dealership had any input regarding this noise? I was curious if they had ideas as to what might be going on.

Thanks,
Laura
