Hi, New member here from Montana, first post. I just bought a 2001 Sierra Ext. cab. It is a second truck, I bought it just to drive to work and take into the mountains. I have a 2012 F-150 that I really like, but wanted an older rig to drive around the valley, for longer trips I'll take the newer truck. This 1500 GMC is really clean and appears to be well taken care of. It has 156,000 miles. I'll try to take some pics this weekend and add them to the post.
One question I could not find the answer for after doing a search, is the door open/seatbelt chime delete. I always wear my seatbelt, but dislike the dinging. On my 2006 Silverado, I was out of luck, as the sound comes through the stereo system, and I would have had to get an aftermarket radio. Only fix was choosing between loud and very loud. Is the 2001 model the same way, or is there a small speaker under the dash I can remove, etc. ?
Only real problem so far (I will probably be back here with more questions/problems !) is the low fuel light comes on when I start it up, but it goes out soon after I drive off. I put 3/4's of a tank of gas in it yesterday eve, and after start up, my gauge only shows less than a quarter tank. After driving a while, it gradually goes back up to show 3/4.
Does it sound like a fuel tank sensor going out, or possibly the fuel pump getting weak? The dealer seemed to think it might be the fuel pump, but wouldn't it make the engine miss if it wasn't getting enough fuel ? Thanks in advance for the help.
