Need Fast Help 98 Gmc Sonoma Help?

1998 Gmc Sonoma with the 2.2 liter 4cyl, Ok got back from driving, i drove to the store, and to dollar general, did fine, come home, and i was going to take the trash up, and when you turn the key all the nights come up fine, the radio works fine, like everything is fine, and when you go to turn the key like your trying to start it it sounds like a vacuum, like it sounds like a vacuum is on, i checked the oil, it said it need 1 quart, Could the motor be gone, i have to run a friend to the hospital tomorrow, PLEASE HELP, thank you

sorry i ment to say LIGHTs, also has 138k miles
 
Sounds like a starter that has failed. The solenoid on the starter is not engaging the starter gear. So the starter motor is just spinning in place, this will cause the sound you are trying to explain.
Try hitting the starter with a hammer, if may cause the solenoid to work, it may not. This usually works in a pinch, although it isn't a fix. It is only a temporary band aid, not to mention a hassle.
Take the starter to an auto parts store, and have it bench checked.
